If beliefs are just thoughts we keep thinking until they become true for us, we could create a belief about anything we want—right?

Then why do we keep thinking thoughts about what we DON'T want? We don't mean to, but we do. When I look in the mirror and don't like what I see, I tend to think thoughts of what I DON'T want: "I look fat,” “My stomach sticks out too much,” “Where did all of that cellulite come from,” “I need to stop having dessert," etc. The feelings that go with those thoughts don't feel good either—I feel shame, embarrassment, and want to hide my body from myself and others.

We imagine that focusing on what we think needs to change will make it change, but it doesn’t work that way. The universe responds to what we are thinking and feeling and brings more of that experience to us. When I focus on what I don't like about my body, I quickly find myself having more experiences that match how I feel—embarrassment, shame and wanting to hide.

We can build a new skill by focusing on how we will feel when we have what we desire. This is a very different focus than how we feel about how things are now. When I think about my body looking healthy, lean and fit, I feel good! I want to wear clothes that show it off, and that I feel beautiful in. It's my choice what thoughts I think, and what feelings I choose to hang out with. The more I think these thoughts and the good feelings that go with them, the faster my experiences start to match up.

This may seem counter-intuitive, yet you did it every day as a child. It's about using your imagination for its intended use...intentionally creating your reality.
